Here you will find pictures and dimensions of the various Enclosures or Vivariums I use for various snakes.
This comes from Asking people who know and have success in breeding various snake species. If you have any new ideas, or would like to share a experience, then please Email me and i can add your idea for others to see or learn from.
All of my Vivariums are made from scratch by myself.
4ft wide, 20" deep, 18" high.
I find these Vivariums very useful for most snakes. They are 4ft wide with sliding glass. 18 inches high (not suitable for climbing snakes) and 20 inches deep.
They are heated by one RED spot bulb of 60 watts (covered by Protective Mesh cage). This provides a ample ambient temperature of 27 degrees celcius 88 degrees farenheit. and a Basking Temprature of 32 degrees celcius, 94 degrees farenheit. Due to the nature of these Vivs being stacked, The spot bulb also privides heat from below, to the above viv and acts almost like a heat mat. Be sure to have Thermometres in various areas of your viv to have a exact temperature reading and your snake cant get burned or be uncomfortable.... NEVER guess the temperature! I mainly use News paper or Brown paper as a substrate, but Aspen or bark can be used to provide a nicer look. Due to the amount of snakes i keep, i prefer the news paper as it makes life easier for cleaning. The hides are placed near the basking spot, but also provides enough coolness near the side of the viv. Water dish is placed on the cool side. I used seedling trays for water. One is screwed to the bottom of the viv and the other lays in that one. This helps that the snake does not tip its water dish. Always make sure the soaking tray is big enough for the snake to soak its entire body. A seperate water dish can be placed near the heated side to allow for ease of shedding and a higher humidity in the viv. Climbing branches can be inserted, but i dont find this necessary.
This sort of viv is suitable for most snakes up to 6ft in length. I use this with no problems with Boa's, Burmese, Blood Pythons, Corn snakes and Large Royal/Ball Pythons.
These Vivs have been checked and approved by my Local Vet and by the Local RSPCA.
Tub Racks, for baby snakes and Adult House snakes.
These are 20 inches deep, 12 inches across and 8 inches high. They have clips for holding the lid on and can be purchased from Tesco for about £2 each. I use 40 watt heat cable, which run across the back third of the rack and only heats one third of the floor space allowing for a heated spot. Ambient temperature in these tubs are 26 degrees celcius, 84 degrees farenheit. The water bowl is not on the heated spot, but still allows for loads of humidity. I have never had a shedding problem with any snake while being housed in one of these.
